Board Hails Ugwuanyi’s Health Sector Reform
The Enugu State Hospital Management Board has lauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s pragmatic efforts to re-position the health sector for greater efficiency in the state.
The Executive Administrator of the board, Dr Okechukwu Ossai, said this last Thursday in Enugu, when he conducted newsmen round the Board’s complex being renovated by the state government after 60 years.
Ossai said that workers’ joy knew no bounds, considering that the renovation was coming many decades after the colonial masters handed over the complex to the defunct Eastern Government.
He said that members of staff of the board were usually apprehensive every rainy season because of the leaking roof, which often led to loss of documents to rain water.
“Today, workers operate in a conducive environment,” adding that the board now has enough office accommodation for all the workers, including those sharing offices in other government agencies and commissions.
“I am happy and privileged to witness the ongoing revolution in the health sector in terms of renovation, acquisition of more health equipment and human resources to work here.
“If you go round the state there is a serious infrastructure revolution in the health sector.
“Almost every general hospital in the state has received a facelift, in terms of infrastructure.
“Ogurugu, Oji River, Enugu Ezike and Uwani are ongoing, while the General Hospitals at Nsukka, Udi and Poly General Hospital, Enugu, have all been completed,” Ossai said.
He said that the governor was also building additional seven new general hospitals to enhance healthcare at the grassroots level.
Ossai further expressed happiness that the governor also provided state-of-the-art hospital equipment and set to employ more hands in the sector.
