‘We’ve Been Using Personal Resources To Organise Sports Activities’
The Sports Officer, Kuje Area Council of FCT, Elisha Musa, says he and his colleagues have been using their resources to organise sports activities and enhance sports development in the area.
Musa told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that this was because the major problem of sports administration at the local level was funding.
“This is why what we need essentially to develop sports at the local level is funding, which can only come through sponsorship,” he said.
The Sports Officer however said Kuje Area Council was able, in spite of the country’s present economic situation, to organise competitions in the last quarter of 2020.
He listed one of such activities as “The Town Competition” and the Sarki Gaube football competition.
“This is because we love sports, as it is a medium to improve and prepare our young boys and girls for future sports encounters.
“We have been able to discover raw talents from our grassroots through sports like football, handball, volleyball, among others.’’
Musa disclosed that the Handball Unity Cup had also been organised in the area in January 2021.
He added that four teams, Kuje Shooters, Seven Brothers, Flying Challengers and Sharp Shooters, took part in the one-week event.
“We have numerous programmes for the year 2021, but we need sponsors to execute them,’’ the Sports Officer said.
He called on rich sports-loving individuals and corporate organisations to sponsor sports activities in the area.
