Elele OSPAC Condemns Extra-Judicial Killings
The Elele Local Vigilante in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has condemned in strong terms the unethical conduct of some vigilante groups in the state.
The Commander of the local vigilante popularly addressed as OSPAC, Mr Daniel Wosa, said a scenario where some vigilante groups involved in extra judicial killing as well as other criminal acts thereby dragging the name of the groups to the mind was highly regrettable.
Wosa, who spoke against the backdrop of commission of crime by some members of vigilante groups, said such persons were dragging the name of the outfit to the mud.
The Elele OSPAC commander also accused some community chiefs and opinion leaders of choosing cultist to head OSPAC groups in their respective domains.
Wosa noted that the consequence of involving a known cultist to head vigilante group was more dangerous because he would end up recruiting his members thereby jeopardising the aim of the group.
He maintained that the local vigilante had core mandate to fight cultism, kidnapping, killing and rape, but noted it was surprising that some criminal elements among the group were delving into extra judicial killing, even arresting without handing over to the police.
The Elele OSPAC commander noted some OSPAC leaders were bound to run into trouble because according to him,” they have abandoned their primary assignment and are now chasing shadow.”
He called on them to redress their footstep for the interest of their communities and take a cue from Elele OSPAC
He said: “Elele OSPAC being the first local vigilante in Ikwerre aside Omoku had often treaded with caution, the core mandate of sanity. No one in Elele (I stand to be challenged) can say I have ever identified with any of the cult groups. I have recommended neutrality, any one arrested is handed over to police for disciplinary action. All have brought total sanity in Elele.”
Residents, investors in the community can now heave a sigh of relief because of our enormous sacrifice; he said
Wosa said the oath we took to assist in sanitising our communities must not be compromised. The boys under my care play according to the rules, any attempt to betray the confidence reposed by the people would never be taken lightly.
“In Elele, sanity and calm have been restored; we advise residents to maintain the tempo. All we need is their collaboration and support,” he noted
He called on governments at all levels to assist in the areas of welfare and logistics.
