Ohanaeze Warns Kanu Over Biafra Agitation
The newly elected President-General of Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, (Amb.) Prof George A. Obiozor, on Wednesday made it clear to the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr Nnamdi Kanu, that the issues of Biafra are above and beyond his capacity to decide.
Obiozor who made his feelings known while addressing newsmen at the Ohanaeze Secretariat Enugu, therefore advised Nnamdi Kanu to avoid at all costs all actions or utterances that put Ndigbo in “present and imminent danger or harm’s way”.
According to him, “the Igbo nation is not at war with Nigeria and has nothing pending before any institutional authority that demands a separate existence from Nigeria.
“ And our mutual and collective responsibilities are sacred and must be respected. Nnamdi Kanu is one of us and he must listen to us for several reasons.
“We must also understand what Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu meant by ‘the bones shall rise’. He didn’t mean conflict, violence and war.
“Definitely the bones have arisen, reincarnated or resurrected but in Ojukwu’s idea the mission is creative and constructive.
“Ndigbo are builders and not nation wreckers destroyers. Ojukwu meant the return of the ‘can do’ spirit of Ndigbo that turns ‘difficulties into dividends’ and obstacles into opportunities”, he further added.
He however explained that his decision to contest for the office of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World-Wide was not based on self aggrandisement, personal ambition or self promotion.
“I have over grown all that as security and safety of Ndigbo will be our priority. It is obvious at this critical time in our history that leadership of Ndigbo ought to transcend partisan politics”.
Prof. Obiozor also used the occasion to thank all the Governors of the South East and other important personalities for their support and contributions in making the election a huge success.
