NPFL: Rivers United Starts Season Unbeaten …Defeats Abia Warriors 1-0
Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt, has started this football season impressively, as they have comprehensively played five competitive games unbeaten.
The Port Harcourt side opened their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with 1-0 home victory against Rangers FC and further ran away with three points, as they also beat Abia Warriors FC of Aba, 0-1, in the day two of NPFL, in Enyimba FC township stadium.
Speaking after the victory against their host, the technical adviser of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma, said they will not relent, saying that this is just the beginning of the season.
According to him, these victories will give his players confidence to win the rest of their CAF confederation cup games.
“So far so good we have played two games and two wins, but I think this is not the end of it all. This is just the beginning and it is good we start on good note.
We will not relent, because we know it is a long race and it is not time to celebrate” Coach Eguma said .
Also speaking, the captain of United, Austin Festus, said he is not surprised that they won their opponents in their own ground.
“ It is not a surprise to me that we won Abia Warriors, because I know we are going to win. I also know how three points was important to us’ Festus said.
He explained that as a captain, he is expected to show good example for other players to emulate, saying that it was the reason why he always give out his best in any game.
“As a captain I have to live by example, because other players are looking up to me, that is why I always behave well” he stated”.
