LG Boss Assures Legionnaires Of Support

The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon Solomon Abel Eke, has reassured legionnaires in the area of his council’s determination to support them in all their activities.
Eke gave the assurance at the council’s premises in Rumuodomaya during the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration recently.
He noted that the fallen heroes and their families deserved the best care and attention going by their commitment to the peace and order enjoyed in parts of the country.
The Obalga boss, explained that without the efforts of the fallen heroes, democracy would not have been achieved in the country.
According to him, those who have staked their necks for such high profile achievements should be celebrated and not to receive any mean treatment at any quarters.
He also called on the legionnaires to feel free to contact the council for any assistance ranging from free health scheme and other programmes operated by the council’s leadership.
In his reaction, the  Chairman of the Obalga Branch of Nigerian Legion,  Major Godwin Elikor (rtd),  said more attention should be given to the fallen heroes and their families going by their level of assistance to peace in the country.
Elikor, who is popularly known as ‘Apprearance’ said that they were war veterans and should not be treated as beggars.
He noted that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day should be seen as a day of stock-taking and sober reflection so as to get its true meaning.
“ What legacy, example and encouragement are we giving to the soldiers in the creek, Sambisa forest and those who are killed in Oyigbo recently, who were fighting the same course “, he said.
Earlier, he  had called captains of industry and public spirited individuals to always donate to the welfare of the legionnaires in order to enable them operate unbiasedly.
