Suspected armed robbers have shot an unidentified young lady at Agip Junction after robbing her of her personal belongings.
The incident happened, last Wednesday night, at about 9:00pm, near the front of the public toilet close to the heavily populated Rivers State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology along Ikwerre Road, Rumueme, Port Harcourt.
The President, Student Union Government of the institution, Comrade ThankGod Igwe, in an interview with The Tide, said they heard gunshots at about 9pm, adding that the gunshots forced students to rush out of the school campus for safety.
Igwe further disclosed that when they got to the scene of the incident, the unidentified lady was found in her pool of blood, and was rushed to the school clinic where she received first aid before she was taken to another hospital by the policemen who arrived the scene later.
According to him, the hoodlums, after robbing the lady, attempted to rape her.
He further added the lady’s refusal angered the robbers, who opted to shoot her in an attempt to forcefully rape her.
The SUG president, however, averred that the particular spot where the incident occurred had been a den for criminal activities in recent times, as unsuspecting members of the public have been repeatedly robbed in the area.
He called on relevant security agencies and the state government to provide security, especially at night in order to save people’s lives within the area.
When contacted on phone, the state Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said he was not aware of the matter.
