Akeredolu Charts Path To Security
The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, called for a multi-level policing system, saying it is the best way to take the country out of the security challenge it is facing in recent times.
The governor also emphasised that the issue of state police had become more necessary than ever.
Akeredolu stated this at the state Christian service in commemoration of the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at St. Benedict Military Catholic Church, Owena Cantonment of the Nigerian Army, Ondo Road, Akure, yesterday.
The governor also said there was a need for more provision of modern equipment for the Nigerian military to help in their fight against insurgents and other criminalities in the country.
He opined that, “better ammunition and welfare of the security agencies must continue to be at the forefront, to better encourage and support the officers in their fight against criminalities.”
Commending the support and commitment of the military in securing the state and confronting kidnappers and other criminal elements who are troubling the peace of the state, the governor said the Nigerian military counter-terrorism efforts aimed at ridding the country and the state of criminal elements was laudable.
In his remark, the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Zakari Abu-bakar, appreciated the commitment of Akeredolu to the brigade, soldiers, widows, and dependents of the fallen heroes.
He said the command recognised and valued the continued supports and encouragement of the governor, urging him to continue supporting the army.
In another development, Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa has urged Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State to wake up to his responsibilities by curbing the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the State.
Giwa alleged that Fulani herdsmen have taken over the State.
In a statement he signed Giwa expressed disappointment over how Akeredolu’s administration allowed grazing and rearing of cattle in the State.
He said: “Before it gets out of hand, I am calling on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to wake up and put an end to grazing and rearing of cattle on the streets of Akure, especially in Igoba, Akure North local government.
“Fulani herdsmen have taken over Akure, Igoba. Ikare, Owo and other areas in Ondo state. They have already occupied Igoba”.
