Varsity Gives N1m Award To Best Student
As parts of activities to mark the 2019/2020 Convocation ceremony of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), in Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, the institution has said it would offer an award of N1million to the best graduating student.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele disclosed this at the university’s Convocation Mass/Thanksgiving Service at St Augustine’s Catholic Chapel, Science Village, at the university campus.
Ndimele, who noted that hardwork deserved reward, said the token would help provide succour for the years of labour and dedication to academic studies of the student.
The vice chancellor said “at the convocation, we will graduate our students as usual. The best student will get an award of N1million. Let’s appreciate those who are doing well. Somebody laboured and became the best student, and we give this as a boost”.
While noting that the institution was the first in the country, particularly among it’s contemporaries to offer such an amount, Ndimele described this year’s convocation as unique, saying “We have more graduands than ever before. We have over 200 PhDs, over 60 First Class and we are happy about it”.
Ndimele maintained that the thanksgiving was imperative following the geometric progression of the institution in the last one year, attributing it to the grace of God upon the university and members of staff.
“Every year, we are growing from strength to strength. Last year, we had 16 First Class; this year, we have 10 times over. Last year, we convoked 45 PhDs, this year, over 200. Last year, we commissioned three projects, this year seven projects. Last year, five professors, this year 14”, he said.
The IAUE vice chancellor further commended the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for his support, saying, “I want to specially thank our dear governor for being there for us. I can’t even begin to recount how much we’ve received from the governor. In fact, God has been faithful to us.”
Speaking to newsmen, the Registrar, IAUE, Prof. Hope Kue-Ikoro, said the institution had recorded huge increase compared to the previous year, adding that it was producing quality, outstanding and great students.
