Police Nab Female Sex Worker Over Death Of Customer In Rivers
The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested a female sex worker over the death of her 40-year-old male customer, late Godday Odili, who died in a brothel located along Azikiwe Street axis in Diobu, Port Harcourt, over the weekend.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, last Saturday, adding that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for investigation.
Omoni said: “The place was temporarily sealed to forestall any form of breakdown of law and order in that area or damage to the facility.
“The manager of the place is in our protective custody, the prostitute in whose room the man died is also with us and investigation is ongoing. The matter has been transferred to state CID.”
However, the family of the deceased has called on the police in the state to ensure that thorough investigation into the incident was carried out to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of their kinsman.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, a member of the deceased family, Mr Chukwuemeka Odili, told journalists that they were suspecting foul play from the management of the brothel in the death of their brother, adding that they were only informed hours after the incident had occurred.
He appealed to the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, to ensure that justice was served in the matter.
A source, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said that the deceased lodged in the brothel, last Thursday night, with a commercial sex worker, and died while having sex with her on that fateful day, adding that the family was only informed of his death on Friday, a situation, they said, was not going down well with them.
According to the source, it was when they called his phone line that a police officer picked and asked them to come to Azikiwe Divisional Police Headquarters, Illabouchi, Mile 2, Diobu.
Our correspondent, who visited Azikiwe Divisional Police Headquarters, reports that the Divisional Police Officer was busy calming down the nerves of the deceased’s family members and the youths who besieged the police division to know what killed their kinsman.
