The Omagwa Council of Chiefs and Elders in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has pledged to assist security agencies in unraveling those involved in the demolition of the constituency project of Hon Boniface Emerengwa in the community.
The Chairman of the Council of Chiefs, Elders and Nyewali Omagwa, Eze Achinike Amadi, who stated this in a statement made available to The Tide, apologized to government agencies, groups or persons who may have been embarrassed by the action.
Amadi stated that the people of Omagwa remained loyal to the government of Rivers State led by Chief Nyesom Wike and the country, Nigeria.
The traditional ruler welcomed all proposed government and non-governmental projects sited in the community, no matter how and who influenced them.
According to him, “Our community requires development, which we will receive with open hands.
“You recall that on 14th December, 2020, we had cause to interact with Rt. Hon. Boneface Emerengwa on the vexed issue of demolition of classroom blocks under construction at Saint Martin’s Primary School, Omagwa. The said project is a constituency project of the House of Representatives member.
“We have further investigated the matter and found out that there was misrepresentation of the facts of the matter, hence our resolve to correct and set the records straight”, he said.
He commended Emerengwa for siting the project in the community out of his love for Omagwa people as part of his constituency projects and condemned those who allegedly brought down the uncompleted building.
The traditional ruler described the act as callous and heartless, assuring that those who were involved in the act would be brought to book.
“We as a community frown at the untoward happening and restate that we are a peace-loving community. We are ready and willing to protect all government projects in the community. We are not vandals”.
He confirmed in the statement that he had met with the contractor who has agreed to return to the site.
It would be recalled that a constituency project under construction at Saint Martin’s Primary School, Omagwa was allegedly demolished by unknown hoodlums.
It was also learnt that the police are still investigating the matter.
