US Advocates More Action In Mitigating Climate Change Effects
The United States Secretary of State, Mr John Kerry, yesterday said that countries needed to do more in mitigating effects of climate change in their communities. Kerry, who made the call in statement, said that the progress so far achieved by countries in reducing climate change effects needed to be redoubled.
‘’We have learned from the false starts of the past and now finally on the path to protecting the future for our children, our grandchildren and generations to come.
‘’But the hard work is still far from over, and we cannot for a moment rest on our laurels.
‘’Much is left to do, but if we keep our collective focus on steady progress, this month could shape up to be one of the most consequential in history for climate action,’’ it said.
The statement said that world largest emitters including the United States, China, India, the EU were beginning to realise the need to implement the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. According to it, the Paris Agreement will come into force in 30 days.
The statement said that scientists’ warnings of the realness of climate change would affect communities globally if more urgent steps were not made at mitigating climate change effects.
“Together, the world’s largest emitters have worked to overcome the divides that have led to the demise of past attempts, and are instead leading the way together.
“Our shared commitment will amplify the powerful signal the Paris Agreement sent to world markets that we are moving toward a clean economy with unprecedented resolve,’’ it said.
