It is no longer news that the draws for the maiden edition of Niger Delta Peace Football Tournament sponsored by Souls Ablaze Ministries International has been concluded last Thursday with 20 teams confirmed their active participation in the high profile soccer fiesta.
The free and fair football draw which has all the 20 teams representatives in attendance saw Fimie United FC and Dandic Warriors pitched tent to play the opening match on Friday November 13, 2020 at NTA Sports Playground, Mgbuoba, Port Harcourt.
Speaking briefly after conducted the draw exercise, the Chairman, Organising Committee of the competition, High Chief Christian Kokoriko, restated their commitment and determination to organise a smooth sailing football competition, devoid of cheats or pervading justice to the wrongside.
“Honestly, we have resolved to monitor the conduct of the officiating referees very well so as to ensure that no team is given undue advantage to win a match, hence, I can also assure all the teams that this is one football competition that its organisation will stand out to be commended at the end of the day as all teams would be given a level playing field to showcase their skills,” Kokoriko promised.
He, however, used the opportunity to advise all registered teams to see discipline as their watchword, and recalled that most of the great players in Nigeria today such as ChidiOdiah, Joseph Yobo, and George Abe among others were discovered from grassroots football competition, while believing that many more would be spotted in the course of this competition.
It would be pertinent to note that the one month grassroots soccer hostility has been designed on knock-out format to end in December 2020.
