Enugu Tasks Monarchs On Primary Health Care
The Enugu State Government has tasked traditional rulers on the need to mobilise their subjects to visit Primary HealthCare Centres (PHCs) to access free and comprehensive healthcare services.
Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ENS-PHCDA), Dr George Ugwu, made his feelings known in a chat with newsmen in Enugu on Sunday.
Ugwu also called on religious and community leaders as well as health stakeholders and Community Based Organi-sations (CBOs) to sensitise the rural populace on the benefits PHC centres offer within their localities this season.
His words, “I urge all living in our various communities,especially mothers and children to take advantage of the improved and free health services in our PHC centres to maximise their wellbeing.
“Our ongoing Modified Integrated Medical Outreach Programme (MI-MOP) is taking place in PHC centres in eight LGA in the state, which included; Aninri, Ezeagu, Igboeze South, Igboeze North, Nkanu East, Nsukka, Oji River and Uzo Uwani council areas.
Continuing, Dr Ugwu further said, “The ongoing MI-MOP programme is providing free primary healthcare services such as immunisation, treatment of minor ailments, health education and promotion, counselling, among others.
“We have also commenced distribution of 1, 200 carton packs of diapers and a diaper each for one nursing mother that visits any PHC facility in the state this season.
“There is also free deworming medicine and multi-vitamins, as well as free immunization services for children between zero and two year,’’ he added.
The executive secretary, however, thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for always approving and supporting the Agency’s programmes and always releasing the government cash contributions for effective implementation of the Agency’s programmes.
According to him, the solid support they are getting from the wife of the Governor, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi, through her U-TOLF Foundation on behalf of mothers and children of Enugu State cannot be over emphasized.
The MI-Mop programme, he went on would run to the end of the year 2020. Ends.
