The Rivers State Government says it has completed the first phase automation system of the state Judiciary.
The Special Adviser to the State Governor on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mr. Ibifuro Asawo, said this during the unveiling of Rivers State Court Management System at the State Judiciary Complex in Port Harcourt.
Asawo said, the state government has already approved money for Internet connectivity of all courts as well as the purchase of computer hardware for courts in the state.
He said judicial officers, including judges and some lawyers already have been trained on the system.
The special adviser said the automation has made it easier for lawyers to file cases from anywhere in the world, while the process of obtaining affidavits from the courts has also been made easier.
He said the system has also made it easier for all land cases to be catalogued, while cases were being migrated from manual to electronics.
Asawo listed other benefits to include; elimination of bribery from the court system as all payments were now being made online, and elimination of all incidences of quackery.
He said the administration of justice would be improved, while the period of trial of cases would be shortened.
According to him, the automation process, which began two years ago, has been fully funded by the state government.
He said that the pilot scheme of the next phase of automation, which is Court Room Technology, has already been demonstrated.
