Ogu Route:Monarch Task Govt On Peace, Safety
The Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs (ODCC), has appealed to relevant authorities to apply their skills and expertise towards preserving the peace, safety and security of the route for all commuters including Ogu in particular.
Speaking to newsmen in a press briefing at the Royal Palace, Ogu in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, yesterday, Chairman of ODCC, Chief Spiff Taribo-Amgbara said it was still the hope and expectation of Ogu people that their complaints, efforts and consultation in this direction would yield the desired positive results.
Chief Taribo-Amgbara said the community was still in great grief over the gruesome murder of one of their illustrious compatriots, Mr Godknows Opuda Owuso by unknown assassins opposite the Community Secondary School at Eteo in Eleme Local Government Area.
“Our fears for safe passage are reinforced by consciousness of not only the last incident but on account of previous cases involving abductions, murder and harassment along the Ogu – Eteo road”, he said.
He also appealed to the authorities to intensify their investigations and bring to justice the culprits of these dastardly vices to serve both as deterrent to criminals and encouragement to commuters.
The chairman also added that to their dismay, they had not heard of any arrest of any culprits over the years regarding previous incidents, stressing that no stone should be left unturned in unravelling those behind the vices, noting that only then will the people of Ogu Kingdom regain the optimism of protection by government and remain confident, secure and friendly enough to pass through the Eteo route without fear, anxiety and uncertainty
According to him: The leadership and people of Ogu Kingdom, have from time immemorial adopted and pursued a policy of friendship, co-operation and understanding with all our neighbours.
“As law-abiding citizens, we have likewise been preaching and practicing the lofty tenets of peaceful co-existence and respect for constituted authorities”.
“ This is why, whenever such provocative incidents occur, we have deemed it preferable to report to the law enforcement agents as well as confer with our neighbours to the end of obtaining redress and sustaining a peaceful environment”.
He further called on the people of Ogu, especially the youths not to take laws into their hands as any reckless act would only tarnish the image of the Kingdom.
