Kaani Chieftaincy Tussle: Monarch Inaugurates Interim Committee

As part of the rulings of a Customary Court, Baen Jurisdiction  in Ken Khana, Ogoni over the contention of the Paramount Rulership position in Teyor Community, ( Kaani 2), Bua Kaani in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Mene Bua Kaani, HRH Mene Godwin Apere has inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the committee pending the final decision of the court over the matter.
Following a ruling by the said customary court barring the contenders to the stool, Jimmy Ngbo and three other claimants and Saturday Ndinee and five others defendants from parading themselves, or participating in any Chieftaincy affairs in the affected community, the Mene Bua Kaani, HRH Godwin Apere was authorised by the Court to inaugurate an interim committee in Teyor Community.
Performing the inauguration ceremony at Kaani Community in Khana LGA, at the weekend, the Mene Bua Kaani called on all parties involved in the matter to obey the court directives for the interest of peace and development in the community.
Members of the newly ingaurated caretaker committee are; HRH Mene Godwin Apere Chairman, while Chief Friday  Saan,  Prince Bira, Mrs Barikpoa Nkoonwi, comrade Monday Damte,  Chief Joseph  Dinee and Elder Basi Dabuuna are to serve as members.
Speaking at the event, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Bori Division, SP Bako Angbashim commended the Mene Bua Kaani for carrying out the court directives successfully. He called on all parties involved in the matter and by extension the community in general to abide by the court directives and pledged his commitment towards promoting peace in the area. Speaking on behalf of the committee members , Prince Bira said members of the committee considered it a privilege to serve the people and called on the community to support the committee to succeed. It would be recalled that the court had in its ruling decreed an order of interlocutory injunction to “restrain both parties from parading/ acting or enjoying any advantages associated with the stool of the Paramount ruler of Kaani 2 pending the determination of the substantive suit. The ruling which was signed by Igerebu S. Moses Esq,Chairman and Nwikina Roberts, Senior Registrar, also declared that “ consequently and in furtherance to the inherent powers of this court in order 11 rule 1 supra and to prevent or avoid rancour and the break down of law and order in Kaani 2 Community due to any leadership vacuum that may arise during the pendency of this suit, hereby directs the Mene Bua Kaani, the overall Head of Kaani I and 2 to appoint an interim committee to administer the affairs of the community.”
