Bayelsa: NGO Harps On Electoral Transparency
A Non-Governmental Organisation under the aegis of Polling Unit Ambassadors of Nigeria,PUAN, Bayelsa State has tasked its members to continue sensitising the public on free, fair and credible election as well as protect the sanctity of the ballot.
PUAN handed down the charge in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital during its maiden strategic meeting held since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A press statement issued to newsmen by the group’s Acting State Publicity Secretary, Amb. Daniel Domotimi, has it that members deliberated extensively on the forthcoming inauguration of its state executive amongst others.
The PUAN publicity scribe quoted the convener, Amb. Patrick Derri, to have hinted members that the state chapter of the organisation had come to carry out activities that would impact positively on the nation’s democracy.
“Members should be courageous as PUAN has come with a difference to ensure that credible candidates are voted into positions of trust through the ballots. We have come to ensure that leaders who can be trusted and be accountable to the people in carrying out their campaign promises are those that will be voted into power”, PUAN said.
“Today, voters can not hold their leaders accountable because their concience were being bought by these politicians”, they added.
