The authorities of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State, have disowned the online recruitment portal trending in the social media purportedly soliciting for applications for employment from unsuspecting members of the public for non-existent academic and non-academic positions in the institution.
A statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Sammy Kpenu, and made available to journalists in Port Harcourt, yesterday, described such online publication as false, untrue and a complete scam.
“The attention of the University of Port Harcourt has been drawn to an online publication purportedly asking members of the public to apply for academic and non-academic jobs in the University of Port Harcourt.
“The authorities of the university wish to state categorically that the university has not advertised for any job vacancies.
“The website created for an online application for employment did not emanate from the University of Port Harcourt.
“Consequently, the public is hereby advised not to patronise the so-called online recruitment exercise as it is the handiwork of fraudsters to smear the hard-earned reputation of the University of Port Harcourt”, the statement noted.
The statement further advised members of the public to disregard the fraudulent online portal/site.
According to the statement, “For the avoidance of doubt, the University of Port Harcourt disseminates information from the institution to the public through its official website (www.uniport.edu.ng), national dailies and local newspapers”.
It would be recalled that earlier in the week, an online post titled: “University of Port Harcourt 2020 Recruitment”, had saturated the social media.
The post had read, “University of Port Harcourt invites applications from suitably qualified candidates into the following posts in the university.
“Job Title: Academic and Non-Academic Staff. Location: Port Harcourt.
“Please help share to other WhatsApp groups. Your share might be someone’s breakthrough testimony.
