Tom And Jerry Creator Dies At Age 95
The Director of the famous Tom and Jerry animated cartoons, Gene Deitch has died at the age of 95. According to the Metro UK, the Oscar winning illustrator was found dead at his apartment in Prague on Thursday night.
Confirming his death Czech publisher Petritimel, the famed animator and “Popeye, the sailor” creator died on Thursday April 16 unexpectedly and no further details has been given but that he was last seen in his apartment in the litter Quarter neighbourhood.
Deitch was best known for his famous work on “Popeye, the sailor ‘and ‘Tom and Jerry” animated series of which he directed 13 episodes. In 2007 he received the Winsor McCay Award for his life long contributions to animations.
He also created other animated cartoons such as Munro, Tom Terrific and Nudnik under Rembrandt Films Animation Studies. His time with the popular Tom and Jerry Franchise began in 1961 when American Production Organisation, Mgm commissioned him to produce 13 shots of animations under Rembrandt Films Animation Studios.
Dietch wrote and directed the cartoon up until 1962. The Animator was born August 8, 1924 in Chicago and is survived by his estranged wife and three sons who are all animators.
His fans and colleagues have taken to twitter to pay tribute to him, thanking him for making their childhood full of fun with the famous catoon series.
