Pelican Stars FC, the Cross River State- owned female football club, has cried out due to hunger and huge debts they owe their creditors.
The players claim they have not been paid salaries for eight months.
Consequently, the players have sent a ‘save-our-soul’ message to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State to come to their rescue.
Speaking with journalists, the players lamented that officials of the club have neither cared to look into their plights nor bothered about their welfare.
They also claimed that better attention was paid to their male counterparts, the Rovers Football Club whose salaries have been paid up till January 2020.
Investigations, however, revealed that table payment has been scheduled for Ayade United Football Club to clear their three months salaries.
An official of the State Sports Council, who pleaded anonymity said there was a time the male counterparts, the Rovers FC were owed nearly one year but the backlog was later cleared.
He therefore, advised the players to be patient just as he cautioned them against venting their anger on ‘preferential treatment’ for Calabar Rovers.
