PDP Flaks FG On Caverton Flight To Rivers
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has flaked the Federal Government over the defence and approval of Caverton Helicopters airlifting oil workers into Rivers State without following health and safety procedures due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbodiyan, in a special phone-in programme in Port Harcourt, yesterday, accused the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika of blackmailing the governor and twisting facts to favour him.
He said, “I do not believe that the issue is about who takes charge of the airport or the port authority. That is not the issue. From my understanding, the issue is when you disembark from the aircraft or ship, you must submit yourself to health officials to ascertain you are not carrying symptoms of Covid-19 into the state.”
He faulted the minister for overlooking the Kaduna and Lagos scenarios where governors had made executive orders and had punished people for flouting state orders.
The PDP national spokesman said that Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, was in order to protect the lives of Rivers people from being endangered and exposed to the rampaging Coronavirus pandemic.
He said, “Because passengers are going into the state, they will mingle with the people, and as such, the decision of the governor is in order, as all the passengers and pilots are subjected to tests before entering into the state.”
Ologbodiyan also picked holes in the way and manner the Federal Government has tackled the Coronavirus, pointing out that it has been politically coloured and does not have a holistic approach to curb the virus menace.
