COVID-19: RSG Distributes Foodstuffs To ONELGA

In fulfilment of the commitment of the administration of Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to the welfare of Rivers people during this trying period, the Rivers State COVID-19 Palliatives Committee, yesterday, distributed foodstuffs to residents of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA).
The committee led by its chairman, Amb Desmond Akawor, distributed foodstuffs to the 17 wards of the local government area.
The foodstuffs were handed over to teams of community leaders, clerics, youth leaders, women leaders and community-based associations to ensure that no section is excluded in the distribution.
Speaking, Chairman of the Rivers State COVID-19 Palliatives Committee, Amb Desmond Akawor urged the representatives of the communities to ensure that nobody is left out in palliative package of the governor.
He said that the Rivers State governor has directed that on account should the distribution of the foodstuffs be politicised, adding that everyone, irrespective of party affiliation, needs for during this trying time.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to South Korea assured the people that Wike would continue to reach out to them to ensure that they sit-at-home and observe social distancing to check the spread of Coronavirus.
He explained that the governor has set aside N2billion for the purchase of foodstuffs, noting that the committee would embark on another phase of distribution of foodstuffs.
The committee chairman said that steps have been taken to ensure that the foodstuffs actually get to the downtrodden.
The distribution of foodstuffs by the Wike-led administration was greeted by celebration by the people of ONELGA.
The leaders praised the governor for intervening at the critical time when they are respecting the directives of the Rivers State Government to contain the disease.
In his remarks, Chairman of ONELGA, Hon Victor Odili, thanked the Rivers State governor for reaching out to the people of the area, emphasising that the foodstuffs would alleviate the suffering of the less privileged.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Ward 1, Eze Friday Ekoji Okoro said that the governor has shown that he loves Rivers people by distributing foodstuffs to them.
Eze Obi Adah of Ward 3 and Chief Albert Ajieh Ward – 13 said that their people appreciate that every group has been carried along in the distribution of foodstuffs.
Also speaking, Eze Christopher Ifeanyi Amannah of Ward 7 and Eze Goodluck Okoro (Ward – 4) said that the governor’s palliatives would assist them fight the spread of Coronavirus.
