Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Frank Archibong has distributed food items to residents of Eket Local Government Area to cushion the effects of COVID-19.
Archibong said the donation of the food items to 11 wards in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, yesterday was as a result of the stay-at-home directive by the state government arising from the outbreak of the cononavirus.
The food items distributed included rice, bean, garri and Indomie noddles.
He said the beneficiaries were the aged, widows, less privileged, widowers and vulnerables across the local government area.
Archibong represented by his wife, Mrs Bright Archibong said the gesture was inspired by the chairman’s concern about the well-being of the people within the period of 14 days lockdown in the state.
“The COVID 19 pandemic came almost like a thief in the night and robbed the world of her collective hard work, crippling economies and destroying lives.
“I am out to ensure that I contribute towards ameliorating the sufferings of the less privileged in the local government area,” Archibong said.
