A statement signed by the state Commissioner for Social Welfare & Rehabilitation, Mrs. Inime Chinwewo-Aguma, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, cautioned that the unsolicited SMS was fraudulent and intended to rip off Rivers people and unsuspecting members of the public.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation is drawn to a text inviting members of the public to an interview for Adoption at the Novotel Hotel, Port Harcourt on March 14, 2020 with the requirement to pay a fee of N200,000.00.
“The ministry requests members of the public to discountenance this message from phone number 0903-566-4957 or any other number as the ministry has her protocol for adoption operated within the confines of the laws of Rivers State.
“The ministry will initiate the prosecution of any person or persons engaged in this criminal act.
