Dep Gov Appeals For Cooperation Against COVID-19
The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi has called on residents of the state to join hands with the government to contain the spread of Coronavirus.
Egbeyemi said the fight against the virus could only be won in the state if the people adhered strictly to the directives issued by government to completely rid the state of the disease.
The Deputy Governor said the residents of the state should also complement efforts of government by observing personal hygiene aimed at containing the spread of Coronavirus in Ekiti.
Egbeyemi, in a statement issued by his Special Assistant (Media), Mr Odunayo Ogunmola, yesterday described the fight against Coronavirus as a “collective responsibility and a battle that must be won” in Ekiti.
He charged the people of the state to fully support the efforts of Gov. Kayode Fayemi, to prevent the spread of Coronavirus and abide by the curfew declared by the governor, which took effect from yesterday midnight.
The Deputy Governor said all the measures adopted by the state government were for the good of the people and meant to save lives.
He charged residents to always wash their hands regularly with soap under running water, apply sanitisers to cleanse their hands, refrain from handshake and hugging, among other measures recommended by the health ministry.
Egbeyemi enjoined them to observe social distancing and avoid crowding in public places and private residences in their own interest and to safeguard public health.
The deputy governor expressed surprise that some individuals defied lawful instructions from appropriate authorities by going to some major markets in Ado Ekiti shortly after they were fumigated over the weekend as part of measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
According to him, government measures to curb the disease will be helped when people stay at home by observing personal hygiene and taking necessary steps to stay safe.
