COVID-19: FG Places Travel Ban On China, UK, US, 10 Others …Confirms Five New Cases As Figure Rises To Eight

The Federal Government has announced five new cases of Coronavirus disease in the country, in addition to the existing three cases.
With the development, Nigeria now has eight confirmed cases of the disease.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, in a press conference in Abuja, on the update of the disease in the country, yesterday, said all the new five cases had a travel history to and from the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA).
Ehanire had said four of the fresh cases were in Lagos State while the fifth case was in Ekiti State.
“We urge Nigerians to remain calm as public health response activities are intensified across the country,” he said.
The centre also wrote on Twitter that “A Detailed travel history of each case is being compiled and contact tracing has begun our National Emergency Operations Centre is supporting response in the states. The Federal Government through @Fmohnigeria is conducting risk assessment to initiate other relevant measures.
“@Fmohnigeria through NCDC will continue to provide accurate updates and take the necessary measures to protect the health of Nigerians. We ask that the public refrain from spreading false information while we all engage in proper hand and respiratory hygiene to #PreventCOVID19Spread”.
Also speaking on the new cases, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said that a nursing mother and her six-week-old child, amongst the fresh confirmed Coronavirus cases in Nigeria, came through Virgin Atlantic.
Abayomi, who gave the details of the four fresh cases in the state, said, “Lagos State confirms four new cases of COVID-19.
“We have a mother and child (of Nigerian nationality), who arrived Lagos on 13th March, 2020 from California on Virgin Atlantic flight number VS411. We also have an American citizen, who came into Lagos through Benin Republic border on 13th March, 2020. Another Nigerian, who returned to Lagos from London on 13th March, 2020 via Virgin Atlantic flight number VS411.”
It would be recalled that a 30-year-old Coronavirus-infected-Nigerian lady also arrived at the Lagos airport on March 13 from the United Kingdom.
