Akawor, New Rivers PDP Boss To Woo Opposition Members
Newly elected State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Desmond Akawor, says his major mission is to woo new members from the opposition parties back to the ruling party.
He made the declaration during his acceptance speech, Saturday, during the State Congress of the PDP held at the Dr. Obi Wali Conference Centre Port Harcourt.
He said, “we shall set out to welcome back our brothers and sisters, who are either on the fence or still on hunting expedition in other parties, the umbrella is a better refuge.”
While admitting that the past chairman of the party, Bro. Felix Obuah left a huge legacy which needs to be sustained and surpassed, Akawor said, “ you have left a big shoe for our team, we promise to continue this relay race with more vigour.”
Akawor, who was Director General, of the PDP Gubernatorial Campaign urged party faithful to support the administration of Chief Nyesom Wike who over the years has exemplified visionary leadership.
He attributed the success of the party in the elections to the tact and commitment of the governor, stressing that more support need to be mustered to keep the party on the path of victory.
The Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt said so far the governor has continued in the same tempo of transforming the state and pledged that the new exco of the party will do all in its powers to support the governor to succeed.
Thanking the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus for leading the party to a formidable opposition at the centre, he promised that the party in Rivers will continue to support the national exco to achieve its objective to take over power in 2023.
