Kidnap: Commuters Urge Alertness
Sequel to yet another kidnap incident along the Igbo-Etche Road in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, users of the road have called on the police to be on alert for the safety of the people.
The incident which took place at about eight o’clock in the evening, Monday, got a man in his early fifties at the grip of three hoodlums while he struggled to no avail.
The Tide gathered that the kidnappers trailed the man in his Nissan Pathfinder jeep from Eleme junction to the point where they finally caught up with him and whisked him away.
“They trailed him from Eleme-Igbo-Etche junction and caught him at that bad spot because at that point the man could no longer speed. He struggled with them but they over powered him and took him away”, an eyewitness said.
Some of the commuters who spoke to The Tide expressed dismay over what they described as the conniving attitude of the police at the expense of the safety of the people.
They blamed the police for the incessant incident of kidnapping along the road alleging that they were acting in partnership with the criminals.
Zebulun Ekezie, a businessman and resident of Iriebe said “over the time, I have come to asking this question, why is it that anytime an incident like this happens, the police is not seen on the road even at the Security Checkpoints”?
“I have taken my time to observe this and I think the police is always on the know and leaves the road for easy operations. I always tell my fellow passengers on board to pray and be on the alert each time there is no police on the road”, he said.
