Imo: PDP Accuses APC Of Plot To Frustrate Judgment Reversal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday raised alarm over what it described as a plot to destabilize the nation as the party accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of mounting pressure on the Supreme Court to restrain itself from reversing the infamous judgment on the Imo State Governorship election which is capable “ of threatening the stability of threatening the country “
The party, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Koka Ologboduyan, which hailed verdict of the Supreme Court on Bayelsa state governorship election, however noted that the elements and grounds for the demands by the PDP and majority of Nigerians for the reversal of Imo state governorship election judgment are completely different from those of Bayelsa state
The PDP explained that its demand on Imo is not in any way in contestation of the authority and finality of the Supreme Court but a patriotic effort to assist the Supreme Court affirm its infallibility by correcting the inherent mistakes in the judgment which came as a result of misleading presentation to it by the APC.
The statement read in parts “It is therefore instructive to note that the various election matters before the Supreme Court were brought on clearly distinctive grounds and each should be treated on its merit before the law.
“The only reason APC was pushing for a review of the Supreme Court’s valid and flawless judgment on the Bayelsa and Zamfara governorship elections was to cause confusion and blackmail the Supreme Court from treating the Imo case on merit”
The PDP maintained that the grounds for the reversal of Imo judgment are unambiguously constitutional and completely distinct from APC’s attempt to blackmail the Supreme Court with their demands on the Bayelsa and Zamfara states governorship election.
The PDP insisting on its demands therefore urged the Supreme Court not to succumb to the threats and blackmail by APC to restrain itself from looking at the merit of the Imo case; correcting the mistakes and reversing the flawed judgment.

Meanwhile, the Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, yesterday, backed calls by the party’s hierarchy for the review of the Supreme Court judgements on the presidential election and four governorship polls.
Caucus Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda made the position known in a statement to newsmen in Abuja.
Apart from the presidential election, the House caucus wants the apex court to revisit the governorship elections of Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and Osun states.
Declaring support for the party’s demand, the caucus said it predicated its action on the request by the All Progressives Congress (APC) asking the Supreme Court to review its judgement on the Bayelsa governorship election.
In his words, “We take cognizance of the fact that some Supreme Court justices and indeed, other judges, as well as judicial officers have in the past suffered assaults, both formally and informally under the supervision of the General Muhammadu Buhari administration.
“Cognizant of the fact the Supreme Court infallibility is hinged on its finality, and not because it’s personnel (justices) are infallible, we reaffirm our faith and confidence in the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court which is still the only hope of the common man.
“Consequently, we express our unalloyed support for the leadership of our great party, the PDP, and hereby call for a review by the Supreme Court of all its earlier judgements”.
