Following the deliberations of the lawmakers at the Ondo State House of Assembly last week on the South West Security Network codenamed Amotekun, the public hearing on the bill to legalise the creation and operations of the outfit would begin today in the state capital, Akure.
The public hearing is billed to hold at Babafunke Ajasin Auditorium, Ministry of Women Affairs, Igbatoro Road, Akure.
Different non-governmental organisations, security agencies, public and all necessary stakeholders are expected to be at the venue.
Last week, the lawmakers, who were on recess when the state Executive Council approved the draft of the laws to guide the outfit and transited to the Assembly, had to cut short their vacation to attend to the bill.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun, explained that the decision became necessary due to the sensitivity and importance of the bill to the people of the state.
Having deliberated on the bill, the bill was later sent to the House Committee on security to study the bill and make recommendations to the larger House.
The public hearing would allow the residents and indigenes of the state to make their contribution to the bill in terms of the security challenges they are faced with and how the security outfit could help resolve such challenges.
