The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commissioned a motorised borehole, nine classroom blocks, comprising a library, lavatory, and offices in  Alifokpa and Yache CommunitySecondary Schools in Yala Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the projects, SUBEB chairman in the state, Dr Stephen Odey, charged community residents  to take ownership of the projects so as to prevent  miscreants  vandalising the  facilities put in place in the schools.
Odey stressed that the construction of a nine classroom block, library, lavatory, and office accommodation as well as water  project was  to key into a  school approach which encouraged model school structure.
“We are adopting a whole school approach. We are gradually deviating from six class room blocks without toilets, library or offices for the teachers and students to make life comfortable while on duty.
“With the whole school approach, students and staff can have a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning to take place.
“This has already been replicated in some schools in other local government areas and we will continue to replicate same across the state.”
The SUBEB boss said that with the model school structure, the school would witness an increase in student enrolment.
“Before our first intervention, they had about 50 students and today they have about 300 students, I believe that with these new structures a higher enrolment increase will occur here.”
He lauded Governor Ben Ayade for restoring the lost glory of the school which the SUBEB helmsman was a pioneer student.
