Rivers PDP, APC Unite In PH …As Friends, Relations Celebrate Mrs Victoria George
Friends and relations of Mrs Victoria Morolayo George, including politicians across party divides gathered at the First Baptist Church, Aggrey Road, Port Harcourt, Friday, to rejoice with her and her children as she thanked God for His goodness and mercies in the last 80 years.
Speaking at the event that was attended by people from all walks of life, including politicians from the leading parties in Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, the officiating minister, Rev. Evangelist Abeke, Senior Pastor of the Divine Grace Baptist Church, Woji, Port Harcourt harped on the need for all to pay attention to their relationship with God, adding that God expects so much from man who He has created for His own glory.
The guest minister, who observed that the celebrant had remained focused and glorifying God with her life, challenged others to live their lives in such a way that they can also be celebrated by men and by God.
In her remarks, Mrs Victoria George, recalled her experiences as a student and as a nurse with the Rivers State Government until retirement in 2000, and summed that God had been good and merciful to her and her family. The celebrant added that she was looking younger because God was renewing her life like that of the eagle.
It would be recalled that, Mrs Victoria Morolayo George, originally from Osun state, was married to late Rev. C. T. T. George, from Asari-Toru in Rivers State, and President of Nigerian Baptist Convention between 1991 and 1997.
Her late husband passed on in 2011, and the marriage was blessed with children including Barr Karibi George; former Council Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and Dr Dawari George, former member of Federal House of Representatives.
Among the dignitaries present at the thanksgiving service were Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, who was represented by National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress; Chief Victor Giadom, Secretary to Rivers State Government; Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Director General of NIMASA; Dr Dakuku Peterside, Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications Pastor Paulinus Nsirim and a host of other friends and relations of the family.
In his vote of thanks, Barrister Karibi George thanked all present for honouring his family and invited them to the reception. He also thanked the politicians for relating freely among themselves at the event irrespective of their political differences, praying for shared mission among them to advance the course of development in Rivers State.
