A federal lawmaker from Rivers State, Promise Dike has decried the state of federal roads in his constituency and appealed for urgent intervention in order to alleviate the sufferings of his people.
Dike, who is the member representing Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives made the appeal while speaking to newsmen shortly after an interactive meeting with women in ward one, Okoloma, Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
He noted that women ought to be appreciated in view of the roles they played before, during and after the last general elections, especially as they rallied huge support for Governor Nyesom Wike and all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and also came out in their large numbers to vote.
Hon. Dike further said he had always been in touch with his constituents since his days as lawmaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly, noting that it would be unthinkable and a disservice to neglect people that voted him into office.
According to him, “Actually the road issue is a very great challenge to the people of Oyigbo Local Government Area. The people have suffered so much in the past years and it has been a cardinal (major) problem.
“Right from when I was in the State Assembly we had palliative measures from the Rivers State Government and also from the oil companies working in the area. Those were efforts that we made in the past years that brought about the palliative measures.
“But as you can see, this is a federal road and plying through that road from Port Harcourt, you can see that it is a no go area. Most people no longer ply that road anymore because of the poor situation.”
He however called on the people of Oyigbo, Tai and Eleme to maintain peace at all times and be supportive of the government of Governor Nyesom Wike as he continues to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the State.
“I have reached out to my people not only during the festive period. I represent as you know, Eleme, Oyigbo and Tai federal constituency. I have been able to reach out to them. There are the leadership, members and others who are members of this constituency and I interacted with them.
“But today I am in my hometown in ward one and the women of this ward came to pay me a courtesy visit and I thank them for showing me love,” Hon. Dike said.
