Promotion’ll Come, RSCSC Assures Rivers Workers
Against the backdrop of the long-awaited promotion for civil servants in the state, the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC) has assured that soon, government workers will get their promotion.
The Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Barrister Oris Onyiri gave the indication during this year’s Thanksgiving and Dedication of the Civil Service held, yesterday at the state Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.
Represented by a member of the commission, Prof. Godspower Nwogu, Onyiri said that Governor Nyesom Wike has so far demonstrated that he was poised to improve the welfare of civil servants.
“Civil servants should be happy we have an amiable governor. We came out from a battleground and survived.
“We are happy that our governor survived the gang up. And he has approved the N30,000 minimum wage, when other states are struggling,” Onyiri stated.
He explained that currently, Rivers State Government workers earn the highest salary in the country, adding that with new minimum wage approved by the governor, civil servants in the state would still receive the highest total salary when compared to those in other states.
Against this backdrop, he urged civil servants to be patient, saying, “if you look at and appreciate all our governor has done, then promotion will come”.
Earlier in his remarks, the state Head of Service, Barrister Rufus Godwins said civil servants have all the reason to praise God over their achievements in the face of daunting challenges.
He noted that the thanksgiving was designed to put God ahead and to recognise Him in all activities of the civil service in 2020 and the years ahead.
Godwins said that so far, a lot of improvements have occurred in the secretariat complex as a way to improve the working environment and motivate workers to put in their best for the state.
Thanking civil servants for their support, Godwins lauded the permanent secretaries and directors as well as heads of agencies and general managers of parastatals for showing commitment as he urged them to do more.
The Thanksgiving/Dedication Service, which held at the Ministry of Justice Auditorium had as its theme, “A New Beginning”, with the Head of Service, Rufus Godwins taking the Bible reading from Isaiah 43: 13-19.
Highlights of the event included praise and worship, hymn, performance by the Rivers State Civil Service Choir, exhortation by Very Rev Gladman Amadi, intercessory prayers for the federal government, Governor Nyesom Wike and the state Executive Council, the Legislature and the Judiciary as well as the Head of Service and state Civil Service, and dedication of the state civil service to God.
