Nwuche Advocates Politics Without Bitterness
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prince Chibudum Nwuche, has called on politicians to use their positions to help people, even as he advocated politics without bitterness.
This is as he described Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike as a politician who has the interest of the State at heart.
Nwuche who stated this during the second memorial lecture in honour of his father, Eze Clifford Mwuche said he has watched the Governor Wike play politics without bitterness.
He explained that despite his defection to the APC, the Governor went ahead to elevate his father and other Ekpeye traditional stools to first class status and also constructed the Osuba-Ukpata Road for his people
Nwuche said, “I want our politicians to be their brothers’ keepers’. The Northerners are doing so; so as South Westerners. But in our State it is different because of continuous fight.
“That is why I always commend our Governor, Nyesom Wike who is my close friend. Even though I had left the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, he (Wike) still went ahead, not only to elevate our stool, the stool our father fought for to first class, but also constructed the abandoned Oshuba-Ikpata Road.
“Because politics doesn’t last forever, but brotherhood and friendships last forever. We should not build enmities around politics,” he stated, urging politicians to see positions to serve the people
The ex-deputy speaker said his father was not only a traditional ruler, but a brave and principled politician that one could count on.
“Our father was a politician, a philanthropist, a sports enthusiast, a businessman and politician. He was chairman of Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NPP) when Okilo was Governor and he was a vibrant chairman of that party and was very principled. Many of us took to his principles. If he gives you his word. You can take it to the bank.
“As businessman, he founded many companies. My father prospered and also empowered others,” Prince Nwuche stated.
