Grasses Take Over Firm’s Premises In PH
The exit of Nigerian Engineering Works (NEW), a multinational company from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, appears to have taken its toll on the premises of the company at Trans Amadi.
A recent visit by The Tide to the area shows an unkempt and dilapidated premises over-grown with grasses.
Sources within the area informed The Tide that the company had relocated its major operations to South Africa few years ago, leaving only skeletal services at the Port Harcourt office.
The Tide also learnt that a section of the company’s premises was allegedly sold to a church but no church activity was going on as at the time of filing this report.
A security official who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the grasses will be cleared as soon as possible.
He also said the company is in the process of relaunching its operations in Port Harcourt, adding that this was evident in the on-going recalling of former employees of the company.
“They are calling them back, that is why you see people here.”
Meanwhile, a director of one of the fishing companies in Trans Amadi has said over 16 companies had their premises over-grown with grasses.
According to the director who spoke under condition of anonymity, many companies in the area have closed shops, adding that nobody is taking care of their premises any more.
He blamed the situation on the inconsistent policies of the government, adding that even the company he is working for (name withheld) is on the brinks of bankruptcy.
According to him, the recent Federal Government’s policy which delisted some items for importation has affected several companies.
