As part of activities to mark this year’s Civil Service Thanksgiving, the Head of Service(HoS),Barrister Rufus Godwins,  has donated items to three charity homes- the Port Harcourt Children’s Home, Remand Home and Home for the Elderly.
The HoS represented by a Permanent Secretary, Nnamdi Okpu, said donations were proceeds from the offering made during the thanksgiving.
He said it was part of the yearly gesture to appreciate God and to reach out to the less privileged.
The head of service noted that doing charity attracted more blessings, “We are told that when we reach out to the less privileged, God will bless us more.”
Against this backdrop, he implored Nigerians to always show compassion to those in need, as a way to give such people hope.
On the other hand, he assured inmates of the various homes not to give up,” being in such situation is not the end of life. We believe that most of the children here will grow and become responsible people tomorrow in the society.”
Responding to the gesture shown by the head of service and his team, Matron of the Home for the Elderly, Rev. Sister Mary Jane Agubosi, expressed happiness for the visit and the gifts.
She said, “ We are not segregating here and there is no tribalism. We are grateful that government has remembered us today.”
At the Remand Home, Warden of the Home, Joy Ololobe, thanked the team for the visit and prayed God to bless them.
The gift items include, toiletries and food donated for upkeep of inmates.
