The Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State has decried the absence of federal government projects in Rivers State, noting that when it is time for governance, politics should be pushed aside.
Chairman of the Labour Party in Rivers State, Prince Favour Reuben stated this when he appeared as guest in a live Radio programme in Port Harcourt monitored by The Tide.
Reuben lamented that the two sea ports in the state were in a sorry state because of the attitude of the federal government towards Rivers State, just as he expressed his unhappiness with the Minister of Transportation, under whose purview the sea ports fall.
He said, “I am not happy with the Minister of Transportation. I am not happy with the federal government. No matter your political divide, when governance is on board, forget about politics. We need the federal government.
“We need sea ports in Rivers State. We have sea ports here but nothing is done. You can’t say because you are a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level therefore, Rivers State should burn to ashes.
“Labour Party does not believe in that. Once you win election we will tell you that we are supporting you because we have members who are in the labour unions. So we work together and don’t see them becoming an opposition to the government of the day.
“I am not even happy that the federal government is not actually facing Rivers State. Presently there is no project from the federal government in Rivers State. It is very bad. We are also asking that the federal government should collaborate with the state government so that the seaport in Rivers State can function. It will be a thing of joy,” Reuben stated.
The State Labour Party chairman further said, “If you look at our federal roads today, even the ones that the state government has done, the federal government has found it difficult to refund them the money; adding that several railway projects are currently being executed in various parts of the country, but the state is not being considered.
“They are building rail lines everywhere, Rivers State should be part of it. Whatever the federal government is doing, whatever that is released to other states, it should also be released to Rivers State irrespective of whether it is a Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) or APC State,” Prince Reuben advised.
