Lawmaker Calls For Dev Journalism For Good Governance
Chairman, Nasarawa State House of Assembly committee on Information, Mr Mohammed Adamu-Omadefu, has advised media executives and other practitioners to promote development journalism to enhance peace, unity and progress in the society.
Adamu-Omadefu (APC-Keana) made the call yesterday in Lafia when the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Dogo Shammah, and the General Manager, Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), Mr Yusuf Musa, defended their 2020 budgets.
The information chairman, who underscored the significance of information in societal development, stressed that wrong management of information was detrimental to the society.
Adamu-Omadedu expressed satisfaction with the 2020 budget proposals of both the Information ministry and NBS, urging them to ensure that government activities receive adequate publicity.
The chairman gave the assurance that the committee would do justice to the two budgets for the overall peace and progress of the state.
Earlier, Shammah appreciated the committee for always giving attention to the ministry.
He revealed that development journalism and tackling fake news are his priorities for development to thrive in the state.
The commissioner said the cordial working relationship between the executive and legislature has given room for speedy development of the state.
The commissioner also assured of the ministry’s continued commitment to boost tourism and cultural heritage in order to boost the revenue base of the government.
On his part, Musa revealed that Outside Broadcast (OB) Van and other equipment are the major challenges facing the station.
He said that the reach of the station was a veritable tool for reaching the large residents of the state with government programmes and policies.
