Labour Leader Tasks Office Holders On Selfless Service
Public office holders have been reminded that service is the hallmark of leadership at all levels of human endeavour.
Chairman of Bayelsa Line Market Association, Mile III, Diobu, Port Harcourt, Chief Godwin Nwosu, stated this at the event marking the 40th Anniversary celebration of Nigerian Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED), held recently in Port Harcourt.
Nwosu advised those occupying appointed or elected positions of trust in the society not to see themselves as masters to the people but rather know that their business is to render quality service to the people.
” The problem we have in the country is that those occupying public offices see themselves as lords or masters to those they are suppose to render services to”, he said.
He urged leaders to always focus their attention on the wellbeing of those they lead instead of their personal interest, stressing that a good leader must treasure his good name above money or any personal gains.
He futher emphasised the need for a leader to have a business doing through which such a leader generates personal income otherwise he or she might be tempted to corner what belongs to the people.
Nwosu, who was honoured with a merit award at the ceremony said: “ I believe any good leader must give priority attention to good name instead of money. “Though money may come later, but any leader who is desperate for money instead of service to the people, may fail.
“ As a good leader, you are also bound to have enemies among those who try to bend you but fail. They will hate you, but don’t mind them, always follow your conscience and do the right thing “.
