Borno Trains 2,700 WAI Volunteers -NOA Director
The Borno State Command of the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) says it has trained 2,700 volunteers, to mobilise participation in community development activities at the grassroots in the state..
The Tide reports that the training exercise was organised in collaboration between the WAI and National Orientation Agency (NOA) as well as Borno Ministries of Transport, Youth and Empowerment.
The NOA Director in the state, Alhaji Yahaya Imam, disclosed this at the graduation ceremony to mark the end of the one-week training yesterday in Maiduguri.
He said that the volunteers were exposed to security and managerial skills to enhance engagement in community services.
Imam described the training as the first of its kind conducted in the past 10 years in the state, adding that the volunteers were also exposed to martial arts, security tips, surveillance, traffic management and crime prevention, among others.
Imam commended the ministries of transport, youth and empowerment for their support which he said facilitated successful conduct of the exercise.
The director urged the volunteers to be discipline, dedicated and support their respective communities to achieve sustainable social and economic development of the state.
The Deputy National Commander of WAI, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, said the volunteers were being engaged, adding they had contributed positively to various fields of endeavors in the state since WAI creation in 1984.
Abubakar advocated, however, sound legislation to provide financial support to the brigade and encourage volunteerism in the country.
