The Yobe State Government on Monday supported the Nigeria Police and other security agencies with 30 Toyota Hilux vehicles procured at the cost of N720 million.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, who presented the vehicles to the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, in Damaturu, said the state would make meaningful socio-economic development under a peaceful and secured environment.
“It is for this reason that we thought it was necessary to work together with the Nigerian Police to set up a rapid response squad that could deploy anywhere in the state to tackle security challenges and threats.
“We are naming this rapid response squad as ‘Haba Maza’ for the gallant officers and men of the force not to give any breathing space for criminals in the state.
“Haba Maza is a mantra that charges them to surge forward and to go after criminals relentlessly,” Buni said.
The state government also donated a one storey building apartment to serve as headquarters of the Haba Maza Rapid Response squad.
The governor urged the Police to establish more outposts and deploy more officers to the state to consolidate the relative peace and security.
The Inspector General of Police commended Buni for the support, saying this would encourage police in the state to execute their duties with high sense of responsibility.
“We pledged to improve partnership with all actors with new operational strategies to improve security across the country,” he said.
Adamu assured that the vehicles donated to the force would be used judiciously for the intended purposes.
“I call on other state governors to emulate the efforts of Governor Mai Mala Buni in providing the police with logistics and accomodation support to effectively fight crime in their states,” he said.
