Town Planners Hold Town Hall Meeting In PH

The National President of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners ( NITP), Lekwa O. Ezutah, is expected in Port Harcourt, today to commence a three-day working visit.
The State Secretary of the institute, Emmanuel Ikechukwu who disclosed this on Monday said that the National President would visit the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt and Permanent Secretary, Ministry,of Urban Development and Physical Planning.
Ikechukwu also disclosed that the institute would have a town hall meeting at the Ernest-Ikoli Press Centre, Moscow Road, with the theme: Poor Urban Planning: Problems, Challenges, Prospects and the Role of Communities and other Stakeholders.
He said that the town-hall meeting is aimed at provoking actions and promoting urban planning as an important tool to achieving components of the sustainable development goals and addressing the challenges of climate change.
He called on government at all levels to enhance urban planning and development in the state, assuring that the institute would use the programme to intensify its sensitisation on the roles of planners in the state in order to have a well developed and an inclusive cities in Rivers State.
According to him, the roles of NITP cannot be neglected, as planners are part and parcel of every decision, including the formal and informal sectors.
“There is need for government to listen to the advice of town planners and its principles for socio economic development to thrive “, he said.
The Tide also learnt that the institute would visit the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo and the pioneer town planner in the state, Sir Ngozi Oliver Worgu.
