Surveyors Get Charge On Professionalism
Estate surveyors and valuers in Rivers State have been urged to give professionalism a priority in the discharge of their duties.
A retired director from the Rivers State Housing Property Development Authority, Aseminaso Kalio, gave this charge in a chat with The Tide, Monday in Port Harcourt.
Kalio pointed out that professionalism was the distinguisher between professionals and quacks in any industry.
According to him, qualified estate surveyors and valuers should show expertise in their work because that is what would set them apart from interlopers and quacks. Many artisans who have learned the ropes from working under professionals, go about parading themselves as professionals, but there is always a distinction between the quacks and those who have received professional training in the field.
He observed that the jobs of an estate surveyor and valuer were critical in the real estate sector and stressed that it should therefore not be left in the hands of usurpers.
Kalio said that quackery had continued to thrive because some professionals failed to comply with the ethics and standards of the profession, explaining that the development called to question the competence of real professionals.
He called on the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers to look into the problems of professionals who cut corners and lower standards for the purpose of making extra profit and mete out appropriate disciplinary actions to them.
