Philanthropist Wants More Funding For Public

A humanitarian and philanthropist, Rev Miebi Thompson, has called on the Rivers State Government to adequately fund public schools in the State to provide the desired quality education the children deserve in the 21st century.
Thomson, the proprietor of Perfects Brain Global Schools, who stated this recently in Port Harcourt in a chat with The Tide, expressed the belief that government can do more for private schools in the state, which, according to him, are complementing government efforts in providing quality education for the citizenry, saying that the private schools are still better in terms of quality and content delivery.
Commending the efforts of the state government in insisting on quality education and subsequent declaration of free education at both primary and secondary schools, the Bayelsa born educationist, who said his school is running without tuition fees from students, also called on public spirited individuals to feel fulfilled in giving back to society.
“It is Almighty God that gave us life and breadth, as well as the wherewithal. We will continue to run free education in our school”, he said.
He lamented that up till now some public schools in the state are over crowded, making learning cumbersome and advised the government to provide more schools and maintain dilapidated ones.
Thomson also said as a lover of children, he would continue to fight for their upliftment, adding that his students only provide their school uniforms and chalk, “the rest is provided for them from my pocket”.
The cleric turned school proprietor called on young people to above anything else pursue vigorously a life career in education, noting that education alone can emancipate mankind from ignorance, poverty and diseases.
He also advised private schools operators to always work in order to improve educational and learning facilities to improve learning.
Thomson continued that government should apply the carrot and stick approach in dealing with operators of private schools, insisting that asking the private schools to shutdown on account of lack of facilities like play grounds, etc., would not be a panacea.
He therefore pleaded with government to assist private schools to actualise their dreams, by providing enabling environment,
He expressed the beliefs that the Governor of the state wants the best for the state and would always strike the balance so that at the end, all interests would be protected.
