Maina Returns To Prison As DCG Seeks One Week To Brief Court
The Deputy Comptroller General (DCG), Health and Social Welfare, Nigerian Correctional Service, H.B. Kori, yesterday, appealed to the Federal High Court, Abuja, to give him a week, to respond to the court order on the true health status of Abdulrasheed Maina, former pension reform boss.
Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mohammed Abubakar, made this known to Justice Okon Abang at the continuation of trial of former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Maina.
Justice Abang, therefore, adjourned till November 21 and November 22 for continuation of trial.
Justice Abang had, on Tuesday, adjourned till November 7 for continuation of trial.
Maina is being charged with 12 counts bordering on “money laundering, operating fictitious bank accounts and fraud”, was stalled on Tuesday, due to his ill-health.
Maina was wheeled into the court by Correctional Service officers.
However, the Federal High Court, Abuja, yesterday, failed to deliver ruling on Abdulrasheed Maina, chairman, Pension Reform Task Team (PRTM)’s bail application.
Justice Okon Abang, who stated this, said the date for the ruling would be made known at the close of work.
The judge attributed the reason to the heavy workload on the court.
“On account of the heavy workload on this honourable court, the court shall reserve ruling on the bail application.
“The ruling is not ready. The court will give another date at the close of work today,” Abang said.
Maina, whose trial was stalled on Tuesday due to ill-health, was, on Thursday, wheeled into Court 6, where his bail application was expected to be taken.
Two officers of the Kuje Nigerian Correctional Service wheeled Maina into the courtroom at 9:30 am, armed with two first aid boxes.
