Kidnapping Is Now A Major Business – Wike

Following the rampant cases of kidnapping across the country, Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has describe the scourge as a major business in the nation.
Wike stated this during a courtesy call on him by the executive of the Rotary International District 9141 led by its governor, Nze Anizor, at the Government House, Port Harcourt, last Monday.
Wike who noted that kidnapping has become a lucrative business said it would be difficult to end it as it can only be reduced but not eradicated.
The governor said, ‘kidnapping is now a major business. It is impossible to stop kidnapping in Nigeria. It has been commercialized. Everyone that we reduce it to face barest minimum. But it can not be eradicated.
According to him, security reports reveal that those involved in kidnapping range from 16-22 years, adding that the scourge has taken grip of the entire nation.
“Today, kidnapping has taken over all state. It is negatively affecting all the states of the federation, Wike said.
Governor Wike who recalled the recent kidnap of a Judge of the Federal High Court as well as an Appeal Court in Benin stressed the need for synergy by all and sundry to reduce the scourge.
He further appealed to citizens to be security conscious to save themselves, stating that kidnapping now use close relatives, colleagues and associates as informants.
