Flooding: Displaced Persons Return To Rivers Community
Over 2000 persons displaced by flood in Iriebe Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State are now returning to the community.
Paramount Ruler of Iriebe community, Eze Jeremiah Worenwu said this in a telephone interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Eze Worenwu also confirmed that the water level has reduced, adding that some of those displaced are coming back to the community.
The Iriebe monarch who described this years flooding as the worst in the community said many people lost not only their homes, but sources of livelihood.
According to him, farmlands were submerged, business premises and churches submerged, stressing that the incident destroyed the economy of Iriebe community.
Worenwu stressed the need for measures to check future flooding in the community through the construction of roads and drainages round the community.
The traditional ruler also called on the government to increase security in the community to check the activities of criminals in the area.
