Rivers Assembly To Partner Agencies On Emergency Response

The Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Emergency Relief and Special Duties, says it is open to partner emergency agencies in the state in order to create a robust response to emergency situations.
Chairman of the Committee, Promise Nwankwo who disclosed this in Port Harcourt said the committee was working to have a central system where emergencies would be handled in the state.
He explained that ever since the committee was inaugurated on the floor of the 32-member Assembly, a number of organizations had written to them indicating readiness for partnership, saying the committee was open for such collaboration.
“Ever since the pronouncement of the Emergency Committee on the floor of the House, most organizations have written to me for us to partner them to ensure we have a central system of handling emergency cases in Rivers.
“And a platform where well-meaning individuals can use to contribute their own quota to ensure that people are not stranded in emergency situations,” Nwankwo stated, noting that emergency response should not be left to government alone.
“Other persons that are also interested in partnering with the emergency relief and the special duties are free to do that. Reach out to us so that we can put our hands together to ensure that emergency cases are handled adequately in Rivers State.
“We should not leave everything to the state government. It should be a contributory issue from the private sector, the state and local government. It is an emergency situation, so nobody envisages it. When it comes all hands must be on deck to ensure that they give it a permanent solution,” he stated.
